Presenter Bios
Cara McCreary
Cara McCreary is currently completing a thesis on the bean leaf beetle for a Master of Science in Environmental Biology degree at the University of Guelph. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Windsor and an Associate diploma in Horticulture from University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus. While completing her education, Cara has been running a small landscaping business, worked in greenhouse/nursery industries and has been involved with several agricultural research projects through University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus. Cara has a keen interest in landscaping with native species and conservation activities.
Jarmo Jalava
Jarmo Jalava coordinates CCC"s Ecosystem Recovery Program. Jarmo has worked extensively and collaboratively with many dimensions of the conservation demographic, including: all levels of government, conservation NGOs, First Nations, rural landowners, politicians, land- use planners, developers, resource industry professionals, environmental activists, naturalists and volunteers. His vision is to promote the informed protection and recovery of ecosystems, stewardship of species at risk and their habitats, sustainable land uses and lifestyles, and deep reverence for the natural world, by applying knowledge gained over three decades of professional experience as an ecologist, songwriter, writer, educator and facilitator. Jarmo has authored or co-authored more than 120 reports and articles in the fields of ecology and the environment, including: recovery strategies covering 13 federally and provincially listed species at risk; ecological inventories of more than 200 parks and other significant natural areas in Ontario; the original methodology for "The Big Picture: A Natural Heritage Vision for Carolinian Canada"; and baseline ecological studies of two of Ontario's UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves (Niagara Escarpment and eastern Georgian Bay coast).
