Introducing Native Seed Partnerships (NSPs) in southern Ontario – an initiative that builds on and works to implement recommendations from the Southern Ontario Seed Strategy.
NSPs invite native plant growers, users, and distributors in four regions across southern Ontario to scale up the quantity and diversity of native seeds within a sustainable, ethical supply chain.
Each partnership will prioritize Indigenous engagement and leadership and reconciliation, focus on seed priorities that best serve their region ecologically and culturally, and connect with markets for ecosystem restoration, retail gardening, and plant conservation.
The four NSP regions include:
- Greater Golden Horseshoe West
- Greater Golden Horseshoe East
- Southwestern Ontario
- Central-West
Interested in learning more, getting involved, and/or joining the NSP in your region? Contact our team at seed@carolinian.org or sign up to our mailing list to receive updates and opportunities.
The Southern Ontario Seed Strategy and Native Seed Partnerships are built from foundational work and recommendations outlined in the The Economy of Hope report, the Ontario Biodiversity Strategy 2023-2030, and the Southern Ontario Nature Coalition report, Near Urban Nature Network: A Solution to Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss.
