We remember the gifts of two incredible leaders whose dedication to future generations through seed stewardship was inspiring.
Terrylynn Brant was a traditional Mohawk seedkeeper, agriculturalist, and old-time farmer who shared her gifts, traditional knowledge, and stories about the power of seeds and the responsibilities we all carry to be reciprocal to the Earth and restore relationships to native plants on the land.
We give gratitude to Terrylynn for the wisdoms she shared, including her valuable teachings in this video on Restoring Relationships to the Land: https://youtu.be/nO8OcmR_4Nk?si=EnAAVdDemaX5EhHs
Melissa Spearing was at the heart of the seed and forestry space in Canada. As a seed biologist for the National Tree Seed Centre, she shared her valuable knowledge and passion for seed and made positive impacts far and wide. We have worked with Melissa over the years and are especially grateful for the time we got to connect with her through the development of the Economy of Hope report and Southern Ontario Seed Strategy, both of which she was instrumental in.
Her vast contributions to the seed sector will be remembered and honoured, and she will be missed as a valued colleague and friend.
