When the communities of Ingersoll, Beachville and Centreville were confronted with the possibility of a large scale landfill operation coming to the area, not only were concerns immediately raised, so was community-wide action and determination. The 'community vision' is one of maintaining a rural and small town lifestyle, not one of becoming a waste receptacle for garbage from across the province. Our vision is also one of maintaining water and air quality for current and future generations, as well as for wildlife. A landfill constructed adjacent to a Canadian Heritage River (the Thames) quite simply seems out of synch with the values and vision held by each of these small communities.
Sometimes however, challenges such as the proposed landfill can literally 'galvanize' a community into taking stock of what is important and to take action. Residents, organizations, and even political figures have carried the torch, or at the very least, a sign! The featured video is a small reflection of community spirit, energy and action.
