Virtually all of the world’s religions agree that nature is an act of divinity and should be treated as such. In recent years wide spread concern about significant environmental problems has caused most religions to promote awareness of the basis for their commitment to environmental stewardship and to foster responsible actions. Carolinian Canada has always been supportive of this, but is interested in exploring how to be more proactive.
In the last couple of years, the United Nations Environmental Program has developed the Faith for Earth Programme to “partner with faith-based organizations to collectively achieve the Sustainable Development goals and the objectives of the 2030 Agenda.” The UN chose the term “faith-based organizations” ( FBO) to include all spiritually based organizations that have a commitment to environmental stewardship. Thus it is inclusive of Indigenous people and ways of knowing.
It is an easy step for CCC to align with UNEP Faith for Earth programme since CCC’s goals are already aligned with UNEP’s goals. CCC is already specifically focused on the 14 UN Sustainability Goals (2020) and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Carolinian Canada particularly likes the inclusive definition of Faith Based Organizations since it easily incorporates our existing long-term collaboration with Indigenous people.
We look forward to exploring ways of developing working relationships with FBOs as part of our collaborative network that is ramping up positive actions on eco-sustainability. We will start by providing more targeted service using our existing program content and looking for opportunities to provide the dramatic catalyst to major advances by hosting the “safe place” for inter-faith discussions that can foster synergy of stewardship that targets the higher level common objectives and goals.
CCC is proud to be Canada’s largest ecosystem recovery network committed to reversing the trend of habitat loss in Canada’s biodiversity hotspot. We are North America’s longest-running eco-regional network that includes First Nations, government, community, business, academia, social enterprise and thousands who care about a healthy environment.
The Invitation
Carolinian Canada invites individuals and leaders from Faith Based Organizations to review the information and resources that are available on our website, participate in our programs, and inquire about additional opportunities that can be jointly developed. An easy place for and organization to start is to invite their members in signing up for ITZ (it’s free).
If the FBO becomes a CCC member, we can provide feedback reports to them.
As members they can share info about the great projects they are doing in our expo with a virtual 'booth'.
Our multi-partner platforms are designed so any group can easily get involved and groups can join as partners to get targeted assistance such as In the Zone and My Wild Green Home.
