The Southern Ontario Seed Strategy (SOSS) is continuing to expand its reach and connections next week – this time in Quebec City at the RE3 Conference!
The Carolinian Canada SOSS team is heading to Quebec City to present at the RE3 Conference, a conference held jointly by the Society for Ecological Restoration – Eastern Canada (SER-EC) and the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA) from June 11th to 15th, 2023. The theme of the conference for 2023 is Reclaim, Restore, Rewild.
As the conference website notes, “Reclaiming is recognized and practiced by many industries, including mining and petrol extraction. Restoring is recognized most broadly around the world, and has been the main focus of SER. Rewilding, or bringing back to nature, allows us to dream. These terms also imply ideas of industry, science, practice, society and imagination. They run from the practical to the creative.”
The SOSS presentation will share approaches to building a seed network within an ethical and safe space framework and with a two-eyed seeing approach. It will also tie in the work that is being done through the Conservation Impact Bond toward building an ethical restoration economy through conservation finance. Similar to the U.S. National Native Seed Conference that took place in March, 2023, we look forward to the RE3 conference providing opportunities for the SOSS to share learnings and experiences and to network with existing and new partners in native seed and ecological restoration work across the country.
