It is a time of transition for other life as well: just this past weekend, I saw the first traces of fall colours while paddling in the Haliburton Highlands. Avian summer residents of Carolinian Canada are starting to make their way south already, with the migration of shorebirds, warblers, and swallows - among others - well underway.
