Feature Panel: LEAD THE GROWTH OF HEALTHY COMMUNITIES

Healthy ecosystems sustain healthy people and a healthy economy. Municipal leaders play a significant role in the protection and restoration of nature within urban boundaries, in assessing and responding to the risks confronting their communities now and in the future due to climate change.

Communities across southern Ontario are implementing strategies that address the sustainability of the natural environment and are preparing to respond to forthcoming challenges in ways that will ensure strong economic opportunities and a good quality of life for all citizens.

This panel will share specific municipal strategies and experiences plus deliver an unfiltered look at the risks that communities are facing as our panelists explore key questions like:

  • What are proven strategies to accelerate the protection and restoration of nature while balancing community growth and sustainability?
  • How do we align economic, social, health, climate and agriculture goals for healthy communities?
  • What opportunities exist to engage and support leadership in achieving priorities to create healthy landscapes within urban boundaries and beyond?

Moderated by the chair of the Ontario Biodiversity Council Steve Hounsell.
