Calton Swamp Wildlife Management Area / Calton Swamp Wetland Complex

The 84 hectare Calton Swamp Wildlife Management Area consists of land owned by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) (41 hectare) and the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority (CCCA) (43 hectare).

The properties are managed to conserve the wetland and forest, provide habitat for priority species and to support seasonal use including hunting, hiking, research, environmental education and nature appreciation.

The Management Area is home to nationally and provincially rare and endangered plant species, including Slender Sedge, Putty-root and Virginia Creeper.

The site is managed under an Operations Plan between the MNR and CCCA. Other partners involved in the management activities on the site include Duck Unlimited Canada and the Elgin Stewardship Council.
