Content Submission Guidelines

We want to promote you. With a network of thousands of groups, organizations, businesses, and green people, we are ready to broadcast your message across the Carolinian Zone.

We are open to articles from green people, groups, and businesses of every stripe! Whether your target audience is backyard gardeners, eco tourists, the conservation community, or environmentally conscious businesses, Carolinian Canada will extend your reach.

Approved submissions will be distributed through our EcoNews, My Wild Green Home Blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and out to our entire network.

The guiding light behind our blog is to share content that’s educational, engaging, and entertaining … not product-focused or promotional (Note: we welcome promotions to related events that can be attended by our network). All submissions must be in line with Carolinian Canada's mission. We’ve built a high level of trust with our network because they know we will never push something on them that we don’t believe fits our mission and vision of growing a green future together.

Guidelines

  • Full Posts should be 1,000 – 1,500+ words in length.

  • Summaries: alternatively, if you would like us to link to your existing content you should submit a short summary of the content (250-500 words) that you would like us to link to, along with the link to the content.

  • Photo size: Photos are recommended. If you would like to submit a photo, submit at least one landscape photo of at least 1200px wide with a smaller point of focus for use in teaser images and headers - other photos can be added to the article proper if you like. If you do not have a photo, we will use default native plant and landscape photos. You must own the rights to the photo and by sharing it with us, you are granting us permission to use.

  • All content MUST BE ORIGINAL. You must own the content you are posting with us, or provide proof of permission to post it. If your post has appeared anywhere else on the web, consider submitting a summary and a link instead. If you quote other content, make sure the quotation is clearly marked in the content and link to the original work if possible. Use standard quotation protocols otherwise.

  • Carolinian Canada reserves full editorial control and may edit or tweak submissions as we see fit. These tweaks include anything from removing too much self-promotion, edits for clarity and content both small and large, to optimizing for SEO, and more.

  1. Email your article or event proposal to media@carolinian.org

  2. Collaborate with us on a topic and title. Don’t start writing until we’ve done this!

  3. Once we’ve agreed on the topic, let us know a deadline for when you expect to submit the article for review.

  4. After you’ve written your draft, send it to us in an email, Microsoft Word file, or Google Doc. If you are using google docs Use these sharing settings:

    • On – Anyone with the link;

    • Access – Can edit.

  5. Send a short bio (1-2 sentences). This can include an external link to your LinkedIn profile and/or your website.

  6. We’ll let you know when the post is scheduled to go live.

Other Tips and Things you can Include

  • Break up your content, so it’s easy to read. Consider including headings, subheadings, bullets, and other visual elements. This will make your piece more readable.

  • If you are telling your conservation story, consider the beginning, middle, and end:

    • Beginning: give us a little backstory about yourself and your organization, the site you are working on, why you are interested in conservation, native plants, etc.

    • Middle: tell us about the action(s) that you took to help create a green future.

    • End: tell us the conclusion of your action(s), and how they positively affect you and/or your community.

  • Include Links. Consider linking to supporting articles, definition of a word or concept, etc. These links should go to authoritative sites on the topic.

  • Lists and Bullets. Bullet points are good touch stones for the most relevant, important information in an article, and most people skim to find the most valuable information.

  • Actionable Takeaways. If you are writing an information piece, consider adding a recap at the end to sum up the best takeaways and any actions that you would like the reader to take. Maybe use bullet points!
